3 Best Foods At Taman Jurong Food Centre

We have been exploring places to eat especially in the west.

My girlfriend has been raving about the time she had the best BBQ stingray with sambal and it hails from Taman Jurong food centre.

If she didn't say it, I would not even know it existed.

So we decided to try it out! Apparently the food centre has some history behind it.

The History

Taman Jurong Food Centre was previously named as Yung Sheng Food Centre.

It was the first food centre that the government had set up and was built in 1971.

This was the initiative by the government in the early 1960s to relocated hawkers by the road side to a designated building and Yung Sheng was the first "project". There were 60 permanent stalls in the food centre previously.

Sadly, that area has become a rather quiet place in the west of Singapore.

Here are our top 3 foods we love there!

1) Very good sizzling hot plate bbq sambal stingray

simply melt in your mouth stuff. Love the spices as well!

We ordered the $13 portion and it was rather small. We finished in a few mouth fulls. Worth trying though.

Hot Plate BBQ sambal stingray $10 onwards

2) 7 Tea Cafe bubble tea

Very very good bubble tea that hails from Taiwan and it was cheap! Better than Koi and other big brands.

We ordered 3Gems Milk Tea (with pearls, pudding & grass jelly, $2.50) and Kumquat Green Tea with Pearl ($2.70) Both were very refreshing.

3) Tom's Kitchen

Closed on Mondays and Thursdays, 12 - 9pm on other days

We ordered the grill sirloin steak ($8) and it was amazing for that price! The portion is huge as well and sharable among 2 pax. But for me I can easily finish it. The fries are also amazing. All in all a good combination on the plate.

But beware, if you do not like to wait, then maybe you should order it first and try other foods around the food centre. Because, we waited for 45 mins for this dish. But we had fun exploring other foods!
